THE PRO Act BILL
WHAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SHOULD KNOW
Most of CC’s field leadership consists of independent contractors. Further, most Foundations and Essentials Directors classify their Tutors as independent contractors. In 2019, California signed this bill into law. As a result, CC tuition there is higher, and California CC field leaders have greater demands placed upon them.
• Would potentially increase pricing in the 49 other states
• Could force CC to consider restructuring its business model
• Would most likely impact CC communities by compelling Directors to classify Tutors as employees
The PRO Act (H.R.842 and S.420) seeks to reclassify most independent contractors as employees under the National Labor Relations Act, exposing them to unionization and causing them to lose their status as independent contractors. The PRO Act would eliminate most forms of independent contracting, gig work, and freelancing. If passed, this bill would counter the wishes of over 75% of those workers, who say they enjoy the freedom, flexibility, and opportunity that come with their work. This bill has already passed in the U.S. House of Representatives and will soon be up for a vote in the U.S. Senate.
Our first response is always prayer. Our times are known to our good God Who directs the hearts of kings (Proverbs 21:1). No understanding, wisdom, or counsel can avail itself against the Lord (Proverbs 21:30). God will hear us, and no matter the outcome of this or any other law of man—He rules the world.
Like all faithful Christian citizens of this world and Heaven, we are raised to live for such a time as this. May we venture faithfully forward in hope and conviction that we will, even more, know God and make Him known.
